Well I have finally set something up that is a little more functional than this page, easier edits, photo galleries, etc.
So may I introduce blog.rrdesign.ca
My first attempt at a theme manager for the AWN dock. It has basic functionality but I think it does the job pretty well and will allow people to easily share there dock look.
I thought just for the hell of it I would try Compiz 0.5 on Fiesty, and it works great. One bug I ran into was the using the intel modesetting driver did not work well with 0.5, but the regular i810 driver with 915resolution (for my 1280x800) works great. And since it works well I figure I needed something for the settings (other than gconf-editor). So a few edits to gnome-compiz-manager and it works great. So here ya go (both files required), and again ..if your computer melts, etc.... Oh on a side note if you are using the i810 driver, you need to add the line: export LIBGL_ALWAYS_INDIRECT=1 to the top of /usr/bin/compiz
So I heard that the new EOG was much faster than the current 2.18 version so I thought I would roll a quick deb of it for Ubuntu Feisty and give it a test. Yes, it seems to be that it is, so here it is for your downloading pleasure. *I take no responsibility if it melts your computer etc....
I had setup my Canon i550 printer on Breezy some time ago and the drivers worked great. I have now just tested them on Feisty and everything still works fine. Here is a link to the How-to with an update for Feisty.
I have started using the Epiphany browser but it is lacking some web developer extensions that I normally use on Firefox. Sooo, I thought I would take some time and hack my way through learning some Python. So the first one is a simple one but still comes in handy, it is very similar to the jsView extension for Firefox. It sits in the statusbar and can be clicked on to display a menu with links to all the css and js files tied to a page.
Update: Ok so I lied, just did a fresh install of Flight2 and the battery status is not read. The fixed dsdt must have been working between kernel updates, while not perfect its better than having to do it every kernel update.
Well I figured I may as well install dapper on my laptop, and I am glad I did, once again things are improving. For instance, the battery status problem is now gone and works correctly with the new kernels, no more fixing dsdt etc. Even had a successful hibernate (but only one ;) but at least I know progress is being made. Network Manager is working like a hot damn too.
Trying to get the battery status on my Acer laptop as been a bit of a pain, as they seem to use 'smart batteries'. After reading many tutorials/howtos I was able to fix the errors and recompile the current DSDT. Using this with Ubuntu 5.10 has now allowed me to see my battery status.
Yes, its very white. Yes, its hard to read. Yes, its a figment of your imagination.
